Hualian- Taroko Gorge

Taroko Gorge is on the West Coast of Taiwan. Imagine Grand Canyon that runs into the ocean and you've basically got the gist. It is amazingly lush and full- being out of the busy city, it reminds you that Taiwan actually is a tropical island. With the mist rolling over the giant deep green mountains it felt almost unreal.

Rick on the first hike of the day
Two waterfalls with a suspended bridge- Rick was not a huge fan of the 100 meter long wobbly bridge ;)

This is just an idea of how big the canyon is if you see the little dots (aka. people) on the right hand side of the bridge

Second hike- into a waterfall curtain= must walk through the river to get there. After hiking and how hot it was it felt heavenly and we didn't mind.

Waterfall curtain. We had to hike through a lot of tunnels and none of them are lit- so you just have to let your hand follow the wall since we didn't have a flashlight. Especially walking up the river it was a little eerie.

Lisa on the triumphant return from the cave. Notice the peace sign- guess I'm hanging around Asians a bit much.

We got to visit a Buddhist temple/ monastery up in the mountains- it was beautiful.

Rick impersonating the goddess of mercy- they both even have water bottles!

Pagoda- I don't know how these monks do it- I've never climbed so many stairs in my life!

Large Golden Buddha

The Temple- very intricate in detail- but notice how much simpler it is compared to the other temples we went and saw- that is because it is strictly Buddhist.

Shrine

Monk at the Front Gate

You can see how tiny the road is winding through the huge hills.

In front of the Eternal Spring Shrine- apparently this waterfall continues all year around, never running out.
