Almost every city in Taiwan has a martyr's shrine. Basically a monument to all the people that were killed during the "white fear" of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. This is the one in Hualian- very pretty and peaceful.

It had a beautiful Buddhist garden around the Shrine with these black butterfly's.

Lisa sitting at the bottom of the stairs of the monument- too tired to move in the heat- not to mention how all monuments require you climb a bazillion stairs.
