Yuanlin is a small town about 30 min outside of Taizhong. When I served here, there was only a branch. Now there are two wards, loads of baptisms and great retention.
The Hong family - my only convert family in Taiwan - are now sealed, have three kids, and were so excited to see us and so thrilled to attend church with us. While we were there Lisa and I were also asked to go up to the pulpit and give our testimonies of the Church, etc.
After church, the Hongs had us over for luch at their home in Beidou. The amazing menu was mind-boggling and consisted of the Taiwanese equivalent of a pulled-porked BBQ sadwich with curry and potstickers.
We had a limited amount of time to spend with the Hongs, so we quickly went to the garden village Tianwei and rented a tendem bike to accompany them. Tianwei is slightly off the beaten path and is special - its cash crop is flowers. The village's lifeblood is the central flowershop loop, which in recent years has become a favorite place to rent and ride bikes. Imagine a 2-3 mile loop of garden shops front to back.
There is no limit to the cool kinds of flowers plants and fruit you can find on the road in Tianwei.
As we rode around we saw several old traditional-style houses.
Lisa was a little nervous at first about my ability to actually steer the tandem bike without falling over, but she was smiling big before too long :).
Afterward we went to have a small dessert at a famous restraunt back in Yuanlin. A group of high school kids saw us and heard us speaking chinese. They were so taken aback that they asked to have their pictures taken with us. Apparently we're huge in Taiwan.
