The Smith's Take Manhattan!

So instead of giving each other presents this Christmas, we decided to give each other an experience.
We decided to go to New York City! And it was so wonderful!
Nothing like NYC at Christmas time.

We stayed on Staten Island, so we got to take the ferry in and out of the city every day.
It was actually so fun for Sophia, with spectacular views.

Sophia loved taking "the boat"...

... and seeing the "statue of library"

Our first stop was the Empire State building at night.
I've always wanted to see it at night, with all the city lit up.

Did not disappoint.

Then we walked through the bustling city to have some delicious food

One of the best quotes ever.

Next day we fulfilled one of Rick's life long dreams and saw the Guggenheim.

We are not huge connoisseurs of contemporary art, but Rick has an obsession with the work of Frank Lloyd Wright

And I have to admit, the building was amazing.

Rick "geeking out" the whole time.

And I could take photos here all day

Hey look- mommy!

I seriously had to p-u-l-l-l Rick out of here.

I think this will be Rick's heaven.
But maybe made of different materials.

Next stop, the Metropolitan Museum of Art

There was SO much to see here.
Hit up some of our favorites.

Sophia loved it.
I'm so glad she loves museums.

Such a beautiful day

Park Ave
So ritzy.

Sophia was such a good sport the whole time.
Even though she looked like a sleepy homeless person on the Subway.

We spent a good 2-3 hours in Central Park

This was Rick's happy face the whole trip.
He LOVES cities.

You can see Sophia playing in the base of the fountain at Columbus Circle

I could just take in the views all day

We went to F.A.O. Schwartz and got to see the Muppet making factory

And of course the BIG piano!
It was like a 2 hour wait to use it, so this was good.

Had to get a picture of the employee's outfits.
Warm at least.

Grand Central Station
One of my favorite buildings ever.

I want to paint Sophia's ceiling just like this...

Skyline is just amazing.

More amazing food.
So. good.

The first view of Times Square.
Not to mention it was the day before New Years Eve.
Insane.

We rewarded ourselves for braving the crowds with a stop at the famous Serendipity restaurant

The world famous frozen hot chocolate!!
As wonderful as it looks.
Totally worth the 4 hr wait (not exaggerating)

Wall Street
That's a bunch of Bull.
What you don't see is all the Japanese tourists taking photos in the butt-crack of the bull on the other side...

Amazing views out on the bay

On our way to see Lady Liberty

Sophia loved the Statue of Liberty.
Still talking about her.

We making "touring" look good.

Starry Night.
Sophia's favorite piece at the MoMA.
Why? Because it looks like the floating lanterns in 'Tangled".
She started singing "At Last I See the Light"

One of the most beautiful building we saw.
Rockefeller Center

With the Christmas decorations, it was just amazing.

The lights with the clouded sky led to spectacular colors

And the tree and statue were just phenomenal.

Blurry photo somebody else took.
But hey- at least we're all in it, right?!

It was raining all day, so the ice skating rink was just a big puddle.

SOO happy her dairy allergy died off just in time to teach her how to eat New York Style Pizza.
Life lessons.
Honestly, I'm not posting even half of all the amazing places we ate. That out number "sites" 2:1.
We at some meals twice, just so we could sample the things we wanted to.
You don't see the side container from the best Halal cart in midtown right next to our pizza here.

And I actually loved seeing the city in the rain.
Iconic.

We closed our trip with skating at Bryant Park (since it wasn't so wet), Sophia was ecstatic to go ice skating again.

Amazing trip.
Best Christmas present ever.
I know it's cliche but I (heart) NYC!
