Diaries from Detroit: The Fisher Building

We had such a great touring the Guardian Building last week that we decided to go tour another amazing building this week!
The Fisher Building.
It was also built in 1928 by the Fisher brothers (titans among the manufacturing industry). It is huge, ornately detailed, one of the best examples of 1920 Art Deco in the world, and was built in 15 months (crazy!).

One of the main hall.
The detail was by far the most impressive part of this building.
From the chandeliers to the murals to the marble.
To sound cliche: "they don't make 'em like this anymore"

Grating on the walls.

Notice the detailed paintings, brass reliefs, and different types of imported marble.

One of the chandeliers that had the lights off so you can see the detail a bit better.

This wall mural is just so amazing.

The main entrance to the Fisher Theatre on the left through the big gold doors.

Street entrance.

From up one floor- you can see the details on the ceiling a bit closer.

I love the Huge columns and arches.

Can you see Rick looking over the banister?

Detail of the murals above each archway.
They were each individualized with a different art form.

Detail on the ceiling.
All very mythological symbology based.

Detail etching on the doors of the elevators up on the 26th floor.

Former office space of the Fisher Brother's themselves.
It was very posh.

And came with a great view.
Detroit skyline.

And that's not smog (I'm looking at you Californians)- it's snow.

Main floor elevators.
Wow.

Detail, detail, detail.
The Fisher Brother's whole idea was for this to be a cultural one-stop shop place.
And it was.

What I wouldn't give to see it back then...

With our cool friends who like this type of stuff too.
(Sophia was apparently to busy on her phone to take a photo.)

Elevator bank.

Here it is from the outside.

Just phenomenal!
