We got Oma and Opa for a whole week, and had so much fun!
We did lots of fun things.
We got to take them to our favorite Christmas event- Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village.
Old time-y Christmas charm- not commercialized at all. Just carols, horse rides, and roasted chestnuts (fyi: I don't recommend them, except in song)
Oma and Opa wish they had this warm of clothes.
They were so brave in the cold.
I love all the music here.
Brass bands and carolers on every corner.
It's like stepping back in time.
Trying to stay warm on our horse ride!
Loved watching these guys
And Sophia loved accompanying them with the bell
And of course, we got to see Santa!
Beautiful carolers
Ice skating
And caroling with hundreds of people on the village green.
My favorite part.
Accompanied by fireworks!
In a "no-horse open sleigh"
We also took a trip up to Frankenmuth (little Bavaria)
We hit up Bronners- the worlds largest Christmas store.
It was CRAZY crowded.
But Sophia did get to pick out a special ballerina ornament.
We're so cute...
We had a good German lunch at the Bavarian Inn
And got to watch the Glockenspiel!
As we perused the tourist kitsch, we found these stellar Wolf-hats.
All too appropriate for Opa (aka Peter Wolf)
Sophia, looking dapper.
They make a cute couple, don't they?
Stop at the amazing cuckoo clock store.
Not pictured here is the very German (very smelly) food Opa so happily found at a local deli.
And we got to top off the trip at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House's, Nutcracker Tea.
We visited the children's house (everything exactly 2/3 size) and got to visit Santa.
Sophia loved this little house.
Every kid's dream.
I was so nervous about how she'd do with Santa.
She was screaming the whole ride to him.
Then after seeing a few other kids go up to him, she went up no problem, and really liked him.
Hallelujah!
Thinking about what she wants for Christmas.
She said "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"
Ummm....
Cute little set up with Santa.
So adorable.
And as if that wasn't perfect enough- next we had an elaborate tea party!
Sophia was in heaven.
For a little girl who asks to have a tea party everyday, this was awesome.
We all LOVED having Oma and Opa here!
Building gingerbread houses
Seeing Santa at the mall
A little early birthday treat with Oma and Opa
We all LOVED having Oma and Opa here!
