Just a little bit longer.

I was sitting with Sophia tonight, rocking her in her pajamas, and reading stories. She asked me for one more book, and I obliged. As I was reading, the words for a poem came to my mind about the fleeting moment we were sharing. I've never put any of my poetry here, but I thought other mother's might relate.

Just a little bit longer,
I beg you.
Little baby, why won’t you sleep?
You cry and you cry,
Yet you can’t tell me why.
My heart aches as I silently weep.

Just a little bit longer,
You can do it!
Just a few more steps and you’re there!
Your grin is so proud,
As we all cheer aloud.
A triumph of steps we both share.

Just a little bit longer,
you beg me.
“Just one more time”, is your plea.
Whether playing or reading,
More! is what you are needing.
When one time is quite ‘nuff for me.

Just a little bit longer,
I watch you.
And think- soon you’ll be done.
Wanting to rock in your chair,
As I kiss your sweet hair.
Yet for me, we’ve only begun.

Just a little bit longer,
sweet child.
Stay little on my lap one more day.
Growing up never comes late,
So the dishes can wait.
Please, a little bit longer to play.

Just a little bit longer,
to love you.
Forever wouldn’t be enough time.
My sweet baby is all I can see,
When you smile at me.
Thank you God for making you mine.

I don't know when you posted this poem. I love it. Thanks for sharing, it is so true. Looks like you are enjoying life, and Sophia. Children are such wonderful blessings.
