We love exploring downtown Detroit.
There is so much history and things to see.
One of my favorite places is Belle Isle.
It's an island in the Detroit River, in-between Detroit and Canada.
It was made into a huge park, designed by the same person who designed Central Park in New York. And it's actually bigger that Central Park.
It's beautiful and big, but like most of Detroit, dilapidated.
Walking around it you can see its' former splendor, and people who are from here talk about how phenomenal it used to be.
The State just took over it, and it's lined up to become a State Park- so hopefully that means it will start to be rebuilt soon.
At the beautiful huge fountain.
All marble.
It rivals the fountains in Europe we saw at Versaille.
Looking out over the Detroit River, with the Detroit Skyline in the background.
My cute Detroit baby.
She was loving throwing the flowers into the river.
Hopefully that will help with the horrible pollution.
The beautiful conservatory.
There's also the countries oldest Aquarium there, and an abandoned zoo.
Such an interesting place.
After Sophia and I went to Belle Isle, we meet up with Rick down on the River Walk, and had a picnic dinner.
The River Walk is like what Bell Isle used to be, but much smaller.
A really beautiful boardwalk along the river, where people can run, bike, and watch the huge tankers float down the river.
How cheesy are we?!
Such a beautiful day.
Detroit has it's issues, but it is beautiful no matter what.
