Versailles, palace of Louis XIV built out in the countryside. The only word to describe it- ornate. More gold than I ever imagined, and the best part- the 500 acre gardens and park.
Started out in the palace- this is the chapel
The famous Hall of Mirrors
Bed of the King
Rick and I couldn't help feeling like we were in a movie- waiting for carriages to start pulling up
The fountains built here are just incredible. There are so many fountains, that use so much water, that they only turn the fountains on 2 times a day, Sat & Sun, only in July and August. Luckily we got tickets to walk trough while they were on. Absolutely beautiful- unreal that they were able to build them so long ago. They played classical music as you stroll through the gardens- both Rick and my's favorite part of the trip.
The Grand Perspective
We rented bikes to go out in the park- got to see the estate of Marie Antoinette
The park is just huge- no way to get around other than bikes or golf cart. It was beautiful though.
At the other end of the Grand Canal
Rick's favorite fountain
The most famous fountain- the Neptune Fountain- about 200 yards long- takes up so much water they can only turn it on for 10 minutes a day, Sat & Sun, July & August
It was unlike anything I have ever seen before. They turn it on by hand still, with metal keys, and put it to classical music. Unbelievable.
We caught a video of the show
