Labor Day Weekend: Nordhouse Dunes

Labor Day weekend is a wonderful time to get outdoors!
And with Sophia loving camping, and being big enough to hike a few miles, we took her on her first backpacking trip along Lake Michigan in Nordhouse Dunes.

Power food for the long drive ;P

We were all super excited to get away- even Petra.

View from our tent- not too shabby!
Loved seeing/hearing the waves of the lake, and sleeping on the sand.
It was absolutely dreamy.

The beach was so isolated and just beautiful.

All we did is run back and forth between our tent and swimming alll day long- it was so fun.

Petra is not such a fan of the water- but she liked chilling on the beach.

Another huge plus from camping on Lake Michigan- endless supply of fresh water!
We brought our handy filter and were ready to go.

Lots of castle building as well- of course.

I still can't get over how much I loved camping here...

Making dinner- ramen noodles, hard boiled eggs, and korean jerky.
So good.

Watching the sunset along the lake.

Writing in the sand.

Sophia requested I write this for her <3 <3

Getting ready for the night.

unreal.

My favorite part of the whole trip was the night.
We were so isolated that it was incredibly dark and we could see the Milky Way better than I've ever seen before. We let the fire slowly die out and then used our glow sticks and laid watching the stars and tell stories.
We talked about everything from Andromeda to Amelia Earhart.
I felt that connection with the age-old tradition of storytelling under the night sky.

We got up and took a long walk along the beach the next morning.
I love seeing the fresh sand washed after the night.

And I love watching these two together.

Sophia did SO well for her first time backpacking.
She LOVED peeing in the bushes and couldn't wait to tell all her friends when we came home.
