Mykonos is such a beautiful island!
The beaches, sunsets, and ocean were just unbelievable.
We took a ferry out to Mykonos, and the water is just unbelievably blue and crystal clear. Unlike anywhere I've ever been before.
Our favorite beach was Agios Ioannis.
Most of Mykonos is a party place, but this little beach was perfectly isolated and peaceful.
And all the beaches have beach chairs and umbrellas for rent- it's awesome.
We read and read and read, and swam and swam and swam.
It was heaven.
One of our favorite days we took a scooter and hopped beach to beach. The beaches are so pristine and just unreal beautiful. Not to mention all the nudist- haha
A little underwater fun
The water is so incredibly clear- Rick was down a good 16 feet in this picture.
In the main town of Mykonos, Hora, with the famous windmills.
And "Little Venice" on the bay
Greece- one of the few places people line up an hour before hand for the sunset.
Dinner right on the water- amazing.
Beautiful churches over the water
And the buildings are really that white- it's almost blinding
Interesting thing about Mykonos- it was built as a maze to keep invaders out. Tons of allies, side roads, and very confusing. It's said that it is a right of passage to get lost, and we certainly did.
On our mighty scooter!
Another sunset over Mykonos- everyday was basically planned around swimming and watching the sunset.
We got to day trip to the island of Delos.
It was originally considered a sacred island where Artemis and Apollo were worshipped.
It was often fought over and thought to be favored by the gods because it never had any earthquakes, which is actually because it is one of the few places that is not on a tectonic plate in the area.
The coolest part about the island though is that you can climb all over the ruins- literally climb.
An ancient amphitheater
We hiked up to the hill top, and had a great view.
The other cool thing was how much was still preserved. Great mosaics were totally intact in their original place.
We got to climb all over the House of Hermes
It's amazing to walk in these ruins and to think about who must have walked here before.
And the lions of Delos- guardians of the island
Just incredible the detail still on these things.
Original mosaic
I told you- literally climbing.
