Detroit River Days

For some reason a lot of people not from Detroit don't know that it is along a very large river, across from Canada. I guess I didn't know that until I moved here- but the city put a lot of money in to beautifying the riverfront, and have made a kind of festival of it every year. Carnival rides, music, food, and all things river related.

Who doesn't love these type of fountains in the summer? In the background is a Coast Guard ship. (Remember I said Canada is just across the way- so yep, border patrol)

The walkway along the river- definitely one of the nicest places I've seen in Detroit. In the background were jet ski demonstrations.

awesome sand sculpting

everyone participating in the fun

this river front is about 2 miles long and turns in to a beautiful park area along the wetlands. here people were cooling down from a yoga class.

I love the juxtaposition of the beautiful wetlands with the decaying factory of Detroit in the background. It is indicative of much of the crumbling city being reclaimed by nature.

GM headquarters on the right, across the river is Canada

What else did they have? Doggie long jump- haha, awesome

GM headquarters- also know as the Renaissance Center. Probably the nicest building in the city.

They also had some sailing ships you could walk around on

Sophie's king of the world!
